Building capacities for Andean Cat Conservation

Support to the management of protected areas

The Tilcara Agreement – December 11th, 2008

In Tilcara, a small town at the northwest of Argentina, on International Mountains Day, institutions from Argentina, Bolivia and Chile agreed on a framework for international collaboration to protect the biodiversity of the High Andes around their shared triple frontier.

The Agreement represents the best possible conclusion of a 3-year project, based in effective collaborations among AGA members and inspired on the belief that the Andean cat is a good flagship for the protection of this unique ecosystem, vast and remote, but highly vulnerable to increasing human pressures.

This agreement is pledging new opportunities for conservation without borders along the central Andes.
